Doorways appear in my paintings often, even when I don’t have them in mind. In this textured acrylic painting on stretched canvas I blended rich blues and purples using colour, light and dark to lead the eye to where the focal point would be. When I got to that stage, the focal point was obviously going to be a door so I developed the idea of finding a secret door hidden away in the shadows. It is obviously a special door signified by the gold leaf, and it is an old door because some of the gold has worn away. Where does it lead? You must enter in to discover the answer.
